Kevin was supposed to be discharged from the hospital yesterday morning, but because of a fever they kept him longer to monitor him. They took his blood to test for an infection. Luckily they didn’t find one.
Then Kevin was supposed to come home in the evening after a 2nd test, but the 2nd test showed a slightly elevated white blood cell count. And Kevin started throwing up. Fortunately they didn’t think it was an infection because of the color of the vomit. Unfortunately he couldn’t go home because they wanted to monitor his condition. Kevin’s mom and I thought maybe he caught that superbug that has been going around and has caused schools to close down. We hoped it was just a 24-hour stomach flu.
Then Kevin started throwing up the wrong color and the wrong odor. An x-ray showed that his small intestine was either starting to kink or unkink itself (not doctor’s exact words). He had an infection. They decided that they were putting a tube down Kevin’s nose and into his stomach. This tube would help prevent him from throwing up (bile, etc) and further hurting his stomach. It would also help keep vomit out of his lungs.
Then it was midnight, and Kevin’s mom and I had to go home.
I don’t know how Kevin reacted to having a tube jammed down his nose, throat, and stomach last night. It sounds uncomfortable and even painful. His mom called this morning to say that Kevin had a rough night.
Neck cramp is back and I still don’t want to be at work. Had to turn something in this morning and had to tell my manager I didn’t get it done because of last night.
